Round Glass Coffee Table

With all the varieties of modern coffee tables on the market both retail, wholesale and consignment, it’s sometimes difficult to choose which one will perfectly complement our interior décor. One of the modern classics that will fit into nearly any decorating scheme is the round glass coffee table.

Glass is elegant in its simplicity. It makes a room look bigger by allowing a person to look through it instead of obstructing their view. It reflects light, both directly and indirectly to make the room brighter and more inviting. Depending on the type of furniture in the room glass can look modern, futuristic, rustic or imbue an atmosphere of past eras.

The glass itself can be clear or frosted; distressed or etched glass provides transparency with subtle texture. It is the base of the table that truly gives it character and blends in with the room. There are many, many types of bases but by far, the most popular is wood or wood composites.

A round glass coffee table with a wooden base can be beautifully carved to fit in with a traditional or old fashioned room or consist of three or four thick, solid legs for a more modern look. When you choose wood legs that overlap rather like an “x” shape, it will fit into nearly any rustic cabin or traditional scheme. The size and form of the legs–straight, curved, thick, thin or contoured—determines the style of the table. As you can see, two simple materials can be crafted to give so much variety!

There are other bases, of course, the most popular of which is iron. Again, the color and shape of the base is what determines how a round glass coffee table fits into your room. Elaborate designs of delicate vines and flowers recall the early 20th century when style and elegance were so important while heavy black iron with simple lines gives the room a Mediterranean air. The spare lines of gently curved chrome is perfect for modern or Eastern themes while a simple oak base will accent the Spartan furnishings of a dorm room or small apartment.

Now that you’ve thought about the shapes and styles of the base of your round glass coffee table, you should think about whether you want the top to be independent or set into the frame of the table’s base. A bevel-edged glass top is beautifully simple when supported by an attractive base but a glass tabletop set into the base changes a basic style into something else entirely. By choosing an inset glass top, you can have an attractive frame to the glass that is merely attractive wood or a lovely carved border. A metal base can curl up to cradle the top as a sturdy support or a gentle filigreed crown.

When the average person thinks of a round glass coffee table there are usually only one or two images that come to mind. But as you can see, there are so many styles and materials to work with that you are limited only by your own imagination!
